CIP Day

Two talks in school today on some sort of 'career advice', like which school to go after secondary school and stuff like that.

First one was by the Principal of Meridian Junior College. Kept talking about achievements of the school. As if anyone wanted to listen to that. My conclusion after it? I've decided not to... go to Meridian JC. -_-

Second one was by a lecturer in Temasek Polytechnic, from some sort of FBI (which ironically is not Federal Bureau of Investigation, but Financial Business Informatics -_-) course. 40+ courses available, but she just keeps going on and on about her FBI. Bleh, and I'm not even interested in it. Well, duh, I found my calling in Diploma in Game & Entertainment Technology! Storm, earth and fire - Heed my call!! XD Gotta think up of a plan to either dissuade my father from forcing me to Tampines JC or to just "sign up" before he knows about it. :)

Went to collect old newspaper and clothes like "garang guni" (people who go around houses, buying newspaper, clothes and other unwanted junk for very little money and then selling to recycling companies for a profit), except we don't earn money. Our class was assigned to do it together with 1R1. A glance up the row shows no chiobu (pretty gals :P) in their class. Sian liao lah.

Sian: A wonderfully concise Hokkien adjective which conveys boredom, weariness, frustration and emptiness. The English equivalent would be "ennui".
Liao: A Hokkien tag which depending on the context can mean either "already" or "finished".
Lah: The ubiquitous Singlish tag. Used like a fullstop in a sentence.

Took bus to Block 265 in Tampines. The bus uncle win already lor, took a big circle to get there.

Win already lor: This phrase marks the surrender of an argument or expression of unfairness, with somewhat grudgingly friendly, yet ironic tone.

Let me get a map.

Wah win already lor, can't even find an online map. Let me take my trusty digital camera and street directory, which has helped me out in many cycling 'expeditions'.

Edit made on 28 March 2008: That map was lost in the dark abyss of what is known as ImageShack. Not my fault. Hang on, I'll make a new one.

If you can read maps (which I believe everyone clever enough to come to my blog on the Internet is capable of doing), you can tell that we went on a big circle. Yeah, two bumps in the way which when crossed cause several girls behind to scream out loud. For what reason? Me no know. Heard Fym say behind that it's like we're on a journey around Singapore, lol. I'd say it's "Around the World! Start Me Up!" XD

When we reached the destination, the 1R1 kids are already waiting for us, sitting down in two lines. We alighted the bus (like, duh!).

We first went into groups. Yoshida, Ephraim, Vernon and I were in one as usual. Mr. Fong, form teacher of 1R1, assigned teams of 1R1 students into our teams. We got four girls, which are... uh... for need of a better and more polite word, unappetizing. And one, when standing besides Alvin, makes him look thin.

Four of us went into the lift, and those four girls did not want to, replying with a firm 'No!". Who are they to choose when they are... uh... unpleasant themselves?

Wanted to go to the tenth floor, start from the top and slowly work our way down, but lift stopped at eight for people to get on. Unknowingly, thinking we are at tenth floor, we went off the lift. Lift went to first floor. Oh well.

Ephraim and Yoshida worked at eighth floor while I went to nineth and Vernon went to tenth. One bag of newspaper for Vernon, Ephraim and Yoshida each and two bags for me. Dumped them outside the lift at eighth. Then the four girls come. Whatever.

Thought of a strategy. First, we dumped everything into the lift. Then we take it down, collect the bags, dump it into the lift again, go down, and repeat, until we are at the first floor. It was quite good. Four girls just stayed inside the lift seemingly doing nothing, while Ephraim became the "lift operator". Yoshida, Vernon and I were using the staircases, going through floor to floor and taking and dumping every black bag we can find. (Edit made on 28 March 2008: Now, come to think of it, the girls are better off somewhere else, not only to their benefit, but to our benefit as well. They are wasting space standing in the lift, which can be better used to contain those sacks of newspapers and old clothing we are collecting... -.-)

We reached the first floor, where I think two teams are still waiting to be "dispatched". We threw everything we gathered. Girls ran off, talking something incomprehensible, like "ring doorbell". Ephraim and Yoshida went after them. Vernon and I went to clear another section.

Got only two bags from that section. Cheapskates.

Having done what we need to, we went around. Found Sze Ling on the first floor of another block, guarding five bags. We took the bags, wanting to bring it to the "collection point", and she thinks we are stealing it. Lol. Under my "Warrior Code of Chivalry" XD (which only works with pretty gals *nods* :) *shifty eyes*), we helped her and her group. (Edit made on 28 March 2008: I remembered that Sze Ling thought we were trying to steal her bags and started to shout. XD)

Then, with nothing to do, we went to the coffee shop, while Vernon called Ephraim and asked where he and Yoshida are. I ordered a can of Coke, while he ordered a can of F&N Grape Juice. Talked crap about why pressing onto the top hole of the drinking straw causes the liquid in the straw to not flow down the bottom hole (Physic pressure stuff), how far we can shoot the liquid inside a straw using our mouth and not doing any work by carrying the bags of newspapers and walking. XD

Then Serene and Ying Jie came and asked why we are slacking here. Lol, we finished what we have to do anyway. So they complained about how far it is, and we decided to help her (*cough* not Warrior Code of Chivalry, but fear that they will inform the teacher :P *cough*). But we helped anyway, k? So yeah. Plastic bags were shitty to be honest, holes in it cause delay as newspaper swarm out in a bid for freedom halfway. Crappy descriptive sentence. :P Ran to collection point, got another bag and ran back. Brought them to collection point. End of story.

Yoshida and Ephraim came out from hiding at last. Turns out Vernon and I left out some houses and the two of them, plus the four of the girls, were going around collecting the remaining bags and spying at Vernon and I at the coffee shop without our permission. -_-

The four of us went off to convenience store. Yoshida bought a bottle of drink and a newspaper, while Ephraim bought a packet of snacks I think. I, being a child in heart, went to play at the playground on the way for a while. Yoshida thinks that I have a sad childhood.

Back at the "collection" point, we sat down. Mr. Fong immediately makes use of us to scold his 1R1 students, who were too hyperactive and simply refused to sit, that even Sec 4s (a.k.a. us.) were willing to sit and that they were like Sun Wukong.

So we waited for the lorry to come and load the last of the newspaper. Spent a long time waiting. Vernon and I were listening to MP3 players, while Yoshida read his newspaper and Ephraim reading a book. We were flinging Yoshida's empty bottle to each other, as if playing pinball. The girls were playing some sort of hand games that require them to speak some words together as part of the game. Don't ask me to elaborate.

Mr. Lee came after what seems like an eternity. He suggests us to walk to Block 251 and dump what we have at the truck there instead, instead of just waiting. Oh well. "Warrior Code of Chivalry" activates again XD, so I went to help Jasmine lol. Threw the things there and were dismissed. Went to the bus stop and took a bus home. Whee.

Edit made on 28 March 2008:
"And then so on... and so on... then we went back to block 265 to assemble. Sian. Waited there for ages, then we were asked to move the things to block 251 and be dismissed. And a big thank you to samy for helping me take the stack of newspapers! =D very very grateful for that."
:D!
